This might end up being my longest playlist ever…
July was stacked, as all of 2024 is, but below are the albums that grabbed the top spot so far this month.
1 - ‘Passage Du Desir’ by Sturgill Simpson. The whole newsletter last week was on this so, we’ll skip the ‘why it made my list.
2 - ‘Country Classics Vol 1’ by William Michael Morgan. I don’t understand why people don’t talk about WMM very much. While this is an album of covers, William’s voice is second to none with a feeling of 90s (or older) real country overflowing.
3 - ‘Am I Okay'?’ by Megan Moroney. I never listened to much of Megan until recently. I’ve been seeing her everywhere and wanted to dip my toes in to see what the fuss was about. And honestly, I can see why people love her. This was a stellar album with great storytelling, expert-level turns of phrases, and fun listening.
4 - ‘Borned In Ya’ by Melissa Carper. This album, and Melissa in general, will put you in another place in time. Almost like you’re immediately transported to 60/70s diners where the popular tunes of the time are crackling out of the juke box. Give it a listen. Go..go!
What’s Coming Up?
Many of us couldn’t imagine an even better release year BUT the rest of the year still has something to look forward to.
1 - “Made By These Moments” - The Red Clay Strays, due out tomorrow, July 26th 2024
2 - “Tennessee Songbird” - Hannah Juanita, due out August 30th, 2024
3 - “Cowboys and Dreamers” - George Strait, the king of country will grace us again on September 6th 2024.
Til next week,
Nikki
